Convince Your Boss

Make the case for why attending NSN Conference is an investment in
your professional development—and your company’s future.

Top 5 Reasons to Attend Our Conference

  • Build relationships that move your career forward.
  • Gain skills you can put to work immediately.
  • Get direct access to hiring companies.
  • Learn from leaders who have reached the next level.
  • Find a community invested in your success.

Are you interested in attending the conference but not sure how to
convince your boss to fund it? You’ve come to the right place!

The cost to attend a conference includes more than just registration. You will have to factor in other costs, like transportation, lodging, and time away from work. All things considered, your manager will want to hear thoughtful justifications for your attendance.

Tips for Getting Approval

Step 1

Familiarize yourself with the conference

Before you discuss the conference with your boss, you’ll want to be sure you’ve thoroughly explored the conference agenda and speakers. Familiarize yourself with all the options available and start thinking about which sessions align best with your organization’s objectives and aspirations.

Step 2

Create a sample agenda with a list of workshops and sessions you’d like to attend.

Create an outline of your selections with a brief justification for each choice. Highlight your top three reasons for attending.

Step 3

Download the reimbursement letter

Think of this as your template—you’ll make it yours in the next step. Send a formal request letter to your boss (we recommend doing this, whether it’s required or not).

Step 4

Make it personal (because generic doesn’t work)

Share YOUR story: Why does THIS Conference matter for your growth? What sessions align with skills you’re trying to build? How will your team actually benefit when you come back with fresh insights? Be authentic—leaders can tell when you’re just filling in blanks.

Step 5

Book face time, don’t just send an email into the void

  • Grab 15–30 minutes on your manager’s calendar for a “professional development chat” (coffee optional but recommended).
  • Walk them through your letter in person—it shows initiative and makes it harder to ignore.
  • End with a clear ask: “Can we agree on a date for your decision? I’d love to hear back by [specific date].”
